The hardest part about this experience is knowing that we have to let the children go back to environments and challenges that might very well overwhelm them. Adult recovering addicts are told that they must remove themselves from people, places and things that might drag them down again. Children do not have the power to meet this mandate for themselves.

1. Founders Academy hopes for a tuition-free weekday boarding school for teenaged children from Los Angeles' most needy communities. The academy would feature a rigorous full-time academic program, working restaurant, culinary arts program, laundry facilities, bank, financial literacy workshops, regular townhall meetings, print shop, recording studio, performance facilities, art shop, automotive shop, animal husbandry program, agricultural studies program, alternative energy lab, athletics and college prep summers. While room and board and academics are free, every family must contribute something in time or service.

2. Founders Academy and its partners also wish to develop and pilot a home ownership program that educates families in financial literacy and soundness, loan securing, building repurposing and rehabilitation and new owner aftercare.
